double trouble in texas
if i ever thought i wanted to be a mom, the past 4 days has taught me that i do not have the stamina or bandwidth, at least with my life and job the way it is now. i have been babysitting my boss' kids since thursday.
the 13 year old is no trouble.
7 year old twins are another story. these guys are really good and mostly well behaved, but they are 7 and there are 2 of them.
i think the real problem was that i started out completely exhausted. i went to toronto last friday to get everything organized, packed and moved at the old house and honestly slept very poorly. then i flew to nc on tuesday and spent tuesday and wednesday pm in a hotel and slept very poorly again.
thursday their mom and i got back from our business trip and because evelyn was sick with strep throat, i spent the day at home with her. she was happy to lie on the couch, watch Nick and color. whitney the cat help with the healing by hanging out. my only problem that day was i was out of the office for four days and the work was backed up and everyone wanted a piece of me. i picked up ben at school with no issues. the kids were all fine and the 13 year old was helpful.
friday was more challenging because i had to go to the office. luckily their mom's assistant miss lana (texas, remember?) was more than willing to babysit. she is a grandma and has toys in her office for her grandbabies. evelyn was really good for the 1/2 day while i worked. we had happy meals for lunch then went to the new house to let the exterminator and locksmith in, then rushed over to the school to pick up ben. the kids didn't want to go to the airport to pick up the husband so the 13 year old babysat for a couple of hours.
the husband and i popped into the house for a little privacy -- we went for a swim in our new house by ourselves -- then came back to the boss' house. we got sushi for us, sonic milk shakes, corn dogs and fries for them. after dinner, i had to call their mom -- they wanted to watch the goldmember dvd. once that was cleared, plenty of giggling at jokes they didn't understand happened. i was exhausted when my head hit the pillow and the glasses of wine had nothing to do with it.
saturday, evelyn and ben spent all day yesterday with us. they "helped" us put stuff away in the new house (ok, evelyn drew and ben was ben). we had lunch at sonic (they insisted). we went to walmart for more stuff for the house and they helped us pick out pool toys so our pool wouldn't be boring. then they spent 3 1/2 hours in the pool while we hung out with charlie and betsy poolside. they dined on chicken chunks, fruit, carrots, cucumbers and more fruit. cleanest plates I've ever seen from them! bedtime was much earlier since they were so tired. I hear them stirring upstairs now...
sunday, the husband and i will be doing some grown up stuff like getting a new tv so the 13 year old is babysitting for a while today. the husband has to go back to toronto at around 5 pm so we need to spend some quality time at the new texas house. and go for another swim, just the two of us.

i'm glad that I've finally managed to get back to reading my RSS feeds and that I get to read about your life in the big states of TEX-ASS. haha that would make a good car plate.
